| Here you can download the final version of the first White Paper “Beyond
3G / 4G Radio Access Technologies (RATs) and Standards Roadmaps”. Objectives
The work on B3G/4G Radio Access Technologies (RATs) and standards roadmaps
was initiated in November 06 in the direct continuity of the work on the
eMobility SRA version 0.5. The core objective of the group was to define the
eMobility roadmap for B3G/4G radio access technologies and standards, and
identify key technical challenges, some of these challenges being addressed in
the FP7 Programme. This was the first action to instantiate eMobility ambitions
in the domain of roadmapping activities.
Quoting the introduction of the White Paper:
“Expanding the statement from N. Schmitz in 2005 [4] “Ask 10 people what 4G
means and you'll get 10 different answers. The more important question is: How
do we get there?”, asking the question today in 2007 “what means B3G, 4G, B4G
and 5G” to 10 persons may certainly lead to more than 10 different answers… The
eMobility B3G/4G Roadmap Working Group (B3GRM WG) intends with this White Paper
to provide some of the answers to this question. The White Paper also provides
some indications to approach the “how do we get there”. The first section
focuses on existing legacy RATs in the different regions, followed by a review
of the most relevant international public views on the B3G/4G evolution, and
finally a definition of the eMobility perspective on the roadmap for evolution
of Radio Access Technologies (RAT) / Standards and related key challenges.”.
After this first roadmap achievement, the WG has now started to work on the
eMobility “Standardization Roadmap” action, introduced during the eMobility GA
in November 07. Participants will collect the EC FP7 project inputs for
standardization and regulatory plans, and intend to define at the group level a
first integrated view (and related recommendations) that will be captured in the
first White Paper “eMobility Standardization and Regulatory Roadmap – Plans”.
This White Paper shall be available during Summer 08. The collection of projects
inputs is currently initiated in the context of the EC Radio Access Spectrum
(RAS) Cluster. A face-to-face meeting of the eMobility WG will be organized in
May/June 08. More details will be available on this page.We welcome
contribution on the “Standardization Roadmap” action.
